MARV DYSON
Marv Dyson managed radio stations for more than 50 years, working with Gannett, Chancellor Media, Evergreen Media, AM/FM Radio and Clear Channel Radio in Chicago. Included in his long and successful career, Dyson also owned radio stations with business partners.
For 22 years, Dyson served as President and General Manager of WGCI AM/FM in Chicago from 1981 until his retirement from the station in 2003. During his tenure at WGCI AM/FM, Dyson was responsible for hiring Tom Joyner, Doug Banks Yvonne Daniels, Herb Kent and comedian Steve Harvey, who accepted his first job in radio in 1996 from Dyson. During his years at WGCI-FM, Dyson was responsible for revenue growth that saw the stations revenue grow from $2.25 million per year in 1979 to over $40 million in 2000.
Dyson has won numerous awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Radio Broadcasters of Chicago. In 2003 Dyson was named Broadcast Advertising Club of Chicago's Media Person of the year. In 2007 Dyson was named Broadcaster of the Year by The Illinois Broadcasters Association. Dyson was named to Radio Ink magazine's top 10 list of the Best Radio General Managers in America in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Dyson is married and the father of seven adult children and eight grandchildren. He and his wife Kim reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In 2022, Marv Dyson was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
