MARK & BRIAN
Mark and Brian’s radio partnership started in Alabama at Birmingham’s i95. Two years later, they began their 25-year reign at KLOS-FM in Los Angeles with their top-rated morning show that included five years at No. 1. The program was a personality fueled program featuring spontaneously created comedy material and well-planned events involving listeners.
Four years after the show’s September 1987 debut, Mark Thompson and Brian Phelps won their first NAB Marconi Award as Major Market Personalities of the Year. KLOS FM won the Marconi Award for Station of the Year in the same year. An impressive number of motion picture and television actors and actresses and musicians of all genres appeared live on the Mark and Brian program over the course of 25 years. Guests ranged from Bob Hope to Mick Jagger to US Presidents. They received two Billboard Air Personalities of the Year awards, a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, an Emmy, and KLOS garnered a NAB Crystal Award for the duo’s community service efforts.
At the peak of its popularity, the program was heard in 22 cities, including Los Angeles. The program aired its last show in August 2012.
In 2020, the Mark and Brian program was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
