JAMES BROWN


James Brown was an American singer, dancer, musician, record producer, and bandleader and radio station owner. Brown owned the Knoxville, TN, based WJBE-AM (1430 AM) from 1968 through 1979.

Known for his song recordings and live concerts, Brown recorded 17 singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts.  He also holds the record for the most singles listed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that did not reach No. 1. His prolific work as a musician earned him the nicknames, "the Hardest Working Man in Show Business" and the "Godfather of Soul. For many aspiring and accomplished radio air personalities, the presence of James Brown as a radio station owner only reinforced the notion that anything is possible and provided encouragement to set and achieve goals in their respective careers. 

In 2022, James Brown received a Legends induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.
