COKIE ROBERTS
Cokie Roberts was one of the 'Founding Mothers' of NPR who helped make that network one of the premier sources of news and information in this country. She served as a congressional correspondent, senior news analyst and political commentator at NPR starting in 1978, regularly appearing on Morning Edition.
Her final assignment with NPR was a series of segments on Morning Edition titled, Ask Cokie, in which she answered questions submitted by listeners asking her knowledge on political matters. In addition to her work for NPR, Roberts was a political commentator for ABC News starting in 1988 and served as the co-anchor of the ABC News' Sunday morning broadcast, This Week with Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts from 1996 to 2002.
Roberts also regularly appeared on The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, World News Tonight, and This Week for many years until 2019. She was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. She held more than thirty honorary degrees and served on the boards of several non-profit institutions.
The Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend.” Roberts also was an accomplished bestselling author.
Cokie Roberts was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020.
