Charles Osgood is the voice of CBS News, whose carefully crafted commentaries—The Osgood Files—have been carried on the network since 1971.

Known as CBS Radio’s “Poet in Residence” Osgood’s commentaries on the news as well as little known stories are frequently delivered in verse.

Osgood was born in New York City on January 8, 1933. He studied economics at Fordham University. He joined CBS News as a New York-based correspondent in September of 1971.

Prior to joining CBS News, Osgood was a morning anchor and reporter for WCBS Newsradio 88/New York from 1967 to 1971. He also spent almost four years on general assignment for ABC News, served as the general manager at WHCT/Hartford, Connecticut, and was a program manager at WGMS/Washington, DC.

Osgood has written four books, as well as a syndicated newspaper column, which was syndicated twice weekly by Tribune Media Services.

On April 10, 1994, Osgood succeeded Charles Kuralt as host of CBS Sunday Morning on CBS Television. From 1981 to 1987, he was the anchor for the CBS Sunday Night News and has also been a co-anchor for the CBS Morning News.

Charles Osgood was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1990.
